Michael Mestel is a Managing Director and Co-Head of H.I.G.’s U.S. real estate debt fund. He is located in H.I.G.’s New York City office and is responsible for all aspects of the investment process, including origination, negotiation, structuring and closing of deals throughout the United States.

Michael brings over 20 years of commercial real estate experience to H.I.G. Before joining H.I.G., Michael was a Principal at USAA (Square Mile Capital Management), where he was Head of West Coast Origination.

Prior to USAA, Michael served as a Director in the Real Estate Finance group at Citigroup where he was responsible for originating, negotiating and structuring fixed and floating rate loans in the Northeast and West Coast of the U.S. Prior to that, Michael was a Vice President at Rialto Capital Management where he was responsible for the acquisition and asset management of distressed real estate and distressed loans.

Michael earned his Bachelor of Arts in Government from Cornell University.
